Oil Paintings
I have a Master of Arts in Education from the College of Fine Arts at Wichita State University. My area of emphasis was drawing and painting. I was an art teacher in the Wichita Public Schools for twenty-four years until my retirement in 2012. Since 1999, I have taught oil painting to adults for the City of Wichita Parks and Recreation. I also taught art education courses at Wichita State University from 2014-2018 as an adjunct teacher and eventually as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Art Education. I have been an active member of Wichita Women Artists since 2012.
My art work is greatly influenced by the works of Claude Monet. I love his style of impressionist painting. His way of using color and illustrating light effects on different subjects has always impressed me. The first time I saw a real Monet painting was in a Washington D.C. museum and it was a moment I will never forget. His revolutionary work was way ahead of his time.
One of my lifetime goal experiences was when I actually traveled to France and got to visit Monet’s garden in the little town of Giverny. I walked where he took the same footsteps to where he produced masterpiece after masterpiece. The garden had recently been restored and the beautifully designed water lily ponds, the brilliantly green Japanese bridge, and massive flower gardens were truly amazing and inspiring. When I returned from France, I visited Wichita’s version of Giverny; Botanica. There, I found subject matter similar to what Monet worked with and I began a series of water garden paintings.
Any landscape scene which has some kind of water in it could potentially become a new painting of mine. I particularly love the Pacific Ocean where I have vacationed in Hawaii numerous times since 1990. I’ve produced a series of works involving seascapes, tropical plants, and Koi pond fish as the main subjects. I continue to study Monet’s style of painting and strive to develop my works as a Kansas born impressionist.
