Janet Butler

Jan Butler was born in Geneva, Nebraska and moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1981. Classes in decorative painting stimulated a keen interest in art. She graduated from Wichita State University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in studio arts with a minor in art history.
A dominant theme in her work, Portals and Passageways, represents an ongoing series of paintings about transition in life with the door as a metaphor for safety. The artist also produces oil and watercolor paintings of landscapes, still life, animals and images of places she has visited.
Jan had the privilege of working with a team of artists during the historic renovation of St. Anthony’s church in Wichita doing stenciling, gilding and painting faux marble. She teaches watercolor and rice paper batik classes and creates handmade boxes and other paper items in a studio she shares with artist husband, James Butler. Her work is available at Gallery 12, 412 E. Douglas, Wichita, Kansas.
